C5/C6 Isomerisation unit was built to cater for the reduction in gasoline Benzene spec and gasoline pool octane deficit. It comprises three sections, the Dehexaniser (Dehex), Penex and Molex
The Dehex separates the C5’s and C6’s from the CCR feed and directs them to the Penex Unit. The C6 portion of the Naphtha feed contains benzene precursors that would go on to form benzene in the CCR.
The Penex Unit takes the C5 and C6 components and creates Isomerate by converting n-Cs and n-C6s into iso-C5s, iso-C6s. The Penex Unit also very effectively destroys benzene by saturating it.
The Molex Unit takes Isomerate from the Penex Unit and separates the n-paraffins from the iso-paraffins. The n-paraffins removed are then recycled to the Penex Unit and the iso-paraffins form the Isomerate product. Isomerate is a high octane component that can be fed to the gasoline pool.
The Penex-Molex was designed to boost the fresh feed RONC from 64.7 to 87.7 (Arab Light) or 73.4 to 88.4 (Beryl/ Statfjord).

DeHexaniser Naphta from Arab light or Beryl/Statfjord crudes m3/d 6270 or 6000 m3/d bottoms of Arab light or Beryl/Statfjord crudes respectively.
Penex Light Naphta from Arab light or Beryl/Statfjord crudes m3/d 2219 or 2217 m3/day respectively.
Molex Penexate from Arab light or Beryl/Statfjord crudes m3/d 2774 or 2884 m3/d respectively.
